It has been a week of 'challenge' this week for us. All began when - Tuesday week ago, I turned up to take the teaching at our church discipleship course and found that I had prepared the wrong lesson. I was meant to be teaching on - wait for it - "Spiritual Opposition" but I had prepared the wrong thing!! I then went out to the car at 9.45 pm and found the battery flat because I had left the lights on. I was so tired that I had simply got out of the car earlier and not thought. Had a quick 'crash course' on how to start a car using jumper cords. Had never done it before. In fact I had never lifted the bonnet of that car before as I had never needed to. Felt very proud of myself in the end but was not what I needed on a school night when I was already very tired.
That was the start. It was all downhill from then on. Life was very busy at school. We had the Educational Review Office doing their inspection which was fine. However, P's mum's place had a water leak. That was just after P had finished building her a much needed new fence out the front of her place. A pipe had leaked water all through the back bedroom and P, being the dutiful son, was responsible for finding out how to fix it. Lots to do. Many people to contact and much organisation. He was already feeling a bit pushed for time.
On Monday night at 1.15 in the morning I was awake and walked downstairs to find my foot hitting wet carpet outside the hot water cupboard. Discovered the hot water cylinder had broken and leaked all out onto the carpet. All the linen had to come out of the cupboard. We wer eboth up with the torch in the cupboard trying to figure out what was wrong for about an hour. So...no hot water and shower from then until it was fixed on Thursday. Until then it was a terrible mess in the hall. Washed my hair under cold water on Wednesday night in the garage. Ouch - very, very cold. Thankfully we had some water - not none.
Now it is fixed. I have had hot showers again. P is nearly happy again - except -
Our new shower upstairs also had leaked and needed all sorts of detective-minded people to try to discover where the leak was from. It needed to have some of the new tiles removed so that we could detect where the water was coming from. What a nightmare it has been. Still is not fixed and ready to use. We are, therefore, still showering downstairs. We have not thought that the grouting was dry enough to put the grout sealer on it yet so it sits with the heater in the shower - building up the power bills nicely! HOPEFULLY the water attack is nearly over. The 'final straw' was when I went down to the bottom garden last night to find that the bird bath top had somehow fallen off and broken. I had to laugh at that point as it has all been a bit much. I am wondering what the significance of it all being associated with water. Neither P nor I have worked out that one yet. Maybe someone else feels enlightened to know what they think it is all about.
Any thoughts of holidays have now been abandoned unless they involve a caravan and a camping ground relatively close!!
Despite all of that all is well with us. PHEW!
