Unexpected treasures!

Earth is here so kind, that just tickle her with a hoe and she laughs with a harvest.- Douglas Jerrold 1803-1857
Harvest comes not every day, though it comes every year.- Thomas Fuller Gnomologia No. 1799.

I love it when you head down to the bottom of the garden, expecting very little, and instead you discover treasure! We were carrying vege punnets down from the car and spotted mushrooms on our lawn as we went. Yay!

Then we went to the empty garden ( except for herbs and capsicums, which are doing really well) and - upon the turning of the head, there upon the ground were feijoas in abundance!!! Joy, joy, joy!! How I LOVE feijoas. It is such a wonderful part of being a New Zealander. This would have to be one of my most favourite times of the year. Fresh delicious apples, rhubarb and feijoas.

In seed time learn, in harvest teach, in winter enjoy.
- William Blake The Marriage of Heaven and Hell

And so, J's camera was out and I headed into the kitchen with the fresh produce. The oven went on and within 20 minutes we had a cup of tea and fresh feijoa muffins!! The fruit bowl is full and I can see that lunches for the next few weeks will be accompanied with fresh feijoas. YUM!

I think that P is of the opinion that the bottom of our section should become our orchard - and I totally agree. An apple tree or two, feijoa trees, mandarin and orange trees, passionfruit...maybe some blueberries next season, maybe a beehive, and our veges. Good idea.

It's the Good Life!!! We have been enjoying feijoas over the last couple of weeks from our very first harvest ever. Ella whipped up some very yummy muffins yesterday, as well:-) Enjoy them while they last:-)
