Cambodia a lot softer than India, fewer people, less pollution, less litter, less tooting of horns the predominantly Buddhist culture just seems a lot more relaxed than the Hindu.
The bus trip yesterday was long and uneventful - mostly endless rice and water on a very flat landscape broken only occasionally by the villages we passed through.
We arrived at the Hotel in Seim Reap at 4pm. The hotel is quite modern, very nice, comfortable and very clean and probably worth its 4 star rating. It is centrally located and its an easy walk to shopping malls and markets. The city is quite compact and has a quaint French flavour. J thinks you would actually like it here. Everything is so cheap and the shopping is fantastic. We went to the Red Piano restaurant last night for dinner with others and it cost only 12 dollars for both of us for meals and drinks. Afterwards we went market shopping at the Angkor night market. - J thought she was in heaven and I would have to say its one of the nicest markets I have been in, pretty, well lit, safe and with a huge range of stuff on offer plus the fun of hard bartering, by the end of the week we will be sure to have some nice stuff in our suitcases.
Today we went to the various ""Wats"" just a few km from Seim Reap. You can read about these in books but it is not until you drive around and through them do you realise the size and extent of them. We had a one day pass and got a pretty good overview but serious students of these could spend weeks looking around .J's camera was clicking everywhere.
Tomorrow, we have decided is a rest and shopping day - the shopping is great here especially the markets. J is also still suffering from a cold although thankfully this has not stopped her enjoying anything, I think she just got worn out last week.
It seems we have been away for ages though in reality just over a week but so much has been going on and we have been on the go all the time.I haven't heard a single news broadcast and have had no news from NZ so I suppose the world is still intact.
